Echouée avec son père, businessman en cavale, sur une île sauvage, Juliette, 11 ans, rencontre une étonnante salamandre géante, végétant avec les siens sur l’îlot voisin entouré de requins. L’enfant et la bête se lient d’amitié. Le vieux Pramana l’a pourtant mise en garde : si les salamandres sont libérées, elles envahiront la Terre…
Washed up on a wild island with her father, businessman at large, Juliet, 11 years old, meets an astonishing giant salamander. The animal and its fellows have been vegetating on the nearby small island surrounded by sharks. The girl and the beast become friends. However the old Pramana warned her : if the salamanders are freed, they will invade the world…

Karel ČAPEK compte parmi les principaux précurseurs de la science fiction et La Guerre des salamandres est un livre culte pour les Tchèques.
Karel ČAPEK invented the word « robot » from the Czech word « robota » meaning « work » or « serfdom, » and which appeared for the first time in his work R.U.R. (Rossum’s Universal Robots). Karel ČAPEK figures among one of the pioneers of science fiction and War with the Salamanders is a must-read for Czech people.
